General Surgery

The AXIUS® Needle Driver provides increased precision and wristed dexterity for complex suturing in many general surgical procedures.

From navigating the various angles for a secure anastomosis in bariatric procedures to suturing high up in the confined space of the hiatus in foregut procedures, our technology is designed to simplify the most complex laparoscopic suturing tasks.

Benefits for Surgeons

1

Enables suturing and knot tying in the confined space of the hiatus during Nissen fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair.

2

Added dexterity enables ability to reach around or behind structures, such as the esophagus or stomach.

3

Provides greatest ergonomic benefits in cases with higher rate of surgical complexity, such as revisional procedures and patients with high BMIs¹.

4

Achieves the precision and dexterity required for critical bowel anastomosis and common enterotomy closure in bariatric and colorectal procedures.

Benefits for Patients

Surgeons rated AXIUS® better for quality of suturing than their previous laparoscopic device in common enterotomy closure and staple line imbrication in 91% of responses¹.

In all responses the AXIUS® Needle Driver was compared against either traditional laparoscopic needle drivers or the EndoStitch suturing device.

Benefits for Hospitals

1

AXIUS® increases access to high dexterity suturing, reducing robotic patient waiting times.

2

We offer a cost-effective alternative to the robot for low-margin cases.

A Novel Intuitively Controlled Articulating Instrument for Reoperative Foregut Surgery: A Case Report²

This report presents a Nissen fundoplication procedure where previous adhesions impacted working space and visualisation, prompting the use of the first generation FlexDex needle driver to enhance suturing and knot tying.

By providing articulation and intuitive control, the needle driver successfully enabled suturing and knot tying in limited spaces, ideal for minimally invasive foregut surgery. Overall, the instrument demonstrated effectiveness, with an improved ability to suture at the hiatus and distal esophagus.

“For myself as a foregut surgeon, it allows suturing of the hiatus and repair of the diaphragmatic defect in a far easier manner than just straight sticks. To some extent it provides perhaps a better repair”
